The mandate of the Ondangwa town council derives from Article 1 and Chapter 12 of the Namibian Constitution, and the Local Authorities Act, 1992, (Act 23 of 1992) as amended.

Tourism

The town has recently established a new tourist/visitors information centre. The centre aims to provide visitors with tourism related information in and around Ondangwa and provide services such as the booking of:

  • Accommodation
  • Tour guide/Cultural tours
  • Airport transfer,
  • Transport to other towns

Cultural Experience
Feel the royal experience at royal place of the king of Ondonga, King Elifas Kauluma in Olukonda and welcomed with an Owambo- Oshindonga cultural experience offered in homesteads in the villages surrounding Ondangwa in Onathinge Oniipa, Okaku, Eheke.

Attractions

Nakambale museum
Outside the town, is the house of one of the first Finish Missionaries to the region Martin Rautanen or Nakambale as affection ally known? The building dates back to the 1870s, a declared National Monument and its currently housing a museum displaying the history of the missionaries, the history of the Ondonga Kingdom as well as the culture and traditions on the Owambo people. Open markets
At the New open market, developed by Ondangwa town council accommodating local traders from the neighbouring sorounding,  is situated in Ondjondjo Street in the heart of Ondangwa you can buy local agriculture produce such as meat, beans, millet flour, dried spinach, fruit, vegetables as well as traditional clothes made by women around Ondangwa.
Other market selling variety of produce are being developed, in order to accommodate the growing number of traders.

Ohandje Artist Cooperative
A fast growing arts and craft cooperative that was formed in 2005 by 95% of rural women living in the surrounding regions, who produces traditional baskets, clay pots, clothes and jewellery at their homes and deliver them to Ohandje for marketing. The products are sold mostly to the growing number of tourist to the area.

Dorkado Teppiche Cooperative
The Studio in Oniipa, and view how men and women of the area produce hand woven carpets made from pure karakul wool, spun and dyed there. The carpets are span in a range of subjects that are depicting the Oshiwambo culture, the fauna and flora and marine life of Namibia.
